1 C brown sugar
1/2 C shortening
2 squares chocolate, melted
1 egg
1/2 C milk
1 1/2 C flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 C chopped nuts
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add melted chocolate (which has been cooled)
Add slightly beaten egg, then add milk.
Stir in sifted dry ingredients, then add nuts and vanilla.
Drop by teaspoonful on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake 350º for 12-15 min.

Icing:
To 1/4 C shortening, gradually add 2 C powdered sugar.
Alternate sugar with 4 TBS hot water.
Add 1/4 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp vanilla.
Put 1/3 icing in separate bowl and add 1 square melted chocolate and 1 TBS hot water.
Spread cookies with white icing.
Then dab of chocolate icing.
Top with chopped nuts if desired.
