1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. salad oil
3 eggs
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
Dash of salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. mashed cooked prunes
1/2 to 1 c. nuts

Directions:

Grease and flour 13"x9" baking dish.

Combine sugar and oil, beat until smooth. Add eggs, beating well. Sift flour, salt, soda and spices together. Add to egg mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Fold in prunes, nuts and vanilla.

Bake in a 13" x 9" baking dish at 350º for 25-30 minutes. If sticky, leave in 5-10 minutes more. Cut into squares.

May cover with hard sauce for extra sweetness, if desired.

This was LaVerne's go-to recipe whenever she needed to take something to a party or to someone's home. It always was a hit whenever she made it.
