1/2 C. unsalted butter (one stick), softened
1 C. sugar plus more sugar to sprinkle on fruit
1 C. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
pinch salt
2 eggs
12 pitted and halved, Italian or purple plums
lemon juice, to taste
1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º. Beat the butter and 1 C. sugar until light and fluffy. Add the flour, baking powder, salt and eggs; beat well. Spoon the batter into a greased 9" springform pan. Place the plum halves, skin-side up, on top of the batter. Lightly sprinkle the plums with the remaining sugar and lemon juice. Sprinkle with 1 tsp. of cinnamon. Bake for 1 hour or until done. Let cool to lukewarm, then serve plain or with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. The torte can be refrigerated or frozen. To serve after being frozen, let it thaw. Reheat briefly in a 300º oven.
