Directions: |
Directions: Preheat oven to 350º F 1. Use one sheet of filo at a time. 2. Brush the sheet thinly with oil. 3. Combine all ingredients except Turkish Delight and mix well. 4. Sprinkle filling over dough. 5. Press the Turkish Delight into a thin rope (or cut into small pieces) and place along the near edge of the filo sheet. 6, Roll up the dough. It should be about an inch in diameter. 7. Slice into 1" pieces with a very sharp knife. 8. Bake on lightly oiled cookie sheet for 20 minutes. Do not let the dough brown. 9. Cool. Sprinkle with icing sugar. The strudel can be kept unrefrigerated in a tightly sealed container. I don't know for how long, because it has never remained uneaten for more than a few days.

Notes: Bubby regularly used to make a strudel with fruit and nuts and Turkish delight. She used her own stretched dough and it took hours. I found this recipe on the internet and it is as close to what I remember as I could find. With bought Filo dough it is much easier. Try it! If you get adventuresome I am including the recipe for the stretched dough in this book as well.
