1 (8 oz.) pkg. macaroni
1 (8 oz.) pkg. Cheddar, grated
1 egg
1 c. milk
salt and pepper to taste
1 T. butter

Oven 350º ~ Yield: 6 to 8 servings
Cook macaroni according to package directions: drain. Melt butter in casserole dish. Mix milk and egg together. Pour 1/2 macaroni in bottom of dish, top with 1/2 of the cheese and 1/2 of the milk mixture. Repeat layers. Bake for 30 min. Top with 1/4 c. bread crumbs, tossed with 1 to 2 T. melted butter, during last 10 minutes.

Variation: Melt 2 T. butter in large skillet. Stir in 2 T. flour and gradually add 2 cups warm milk, stirring constantly. Add cheese (reserving 1/4 cup) to make a cheese sauce. Combine with cooked macaroni, season with salt and pepper and bake in a lightly greased casserole dish until bubbly. Top with remaining cheese.
