3 cups brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup water
2 egg whites, beaten stiffly
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve sugar and salt in the water. Cook, without stirring, to 255º or to the hard ball stage (until it forms a hair when dropped from a spoon). Remove from heat and pour GRADUALLY over beaten egg whites, beating constantly; add vanilla. Continue beating until candy cools and will hold its shape. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper, or spread in buttered pan and mark in squares.

This is my mother's very old recipe. One of the favorite candies she used to make. It takes a lot of patience but well worth it!!!
