5 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/4 cup lukewarm water
1 cup shortening (like Crisco)
2 cups buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Cut in shortening. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture. Turn out on floured surface and press or roll out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter (any size desired). Place on a greased baking pan and let stand for a while to allow them to rise a little. You may also store the mixture in a large bowl in the refrigerator overnight or for several days before baking.

Bake at 450º for 10 minutes.

Cooked biscuits can be frozen and reheated in oven or microwave. These are very good for country ham biscuits.
