1 tsp baking soda
1 c. chopped dates
1½ c. boiling water
4 tbsp butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2½ flour
1 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle baking soda over the chopped dates and add the boiling water. Cool mixture.
Cream together the butter and brown sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Sift together the flour and baking powder then add to the batter alternating with the date mixture.
Turn in a 9x5 greased loaf pan.
Bake at 350º for 1 hour.
