Basic sauce:
1 part ketchup
1 part Coke or Pepsi (before combining, it works best to stir a metal spoon in the soda pop to reduce or remove carbonation)
Optional ingredients (items with a * will increase the hotness of the BBQ sauce)
Paprika (for color)
Honey (for sweetness)
Chili powder* (for spiciness)
Cumin* (for spiciness)
Cayenne pepper* (for spiciness)
Hickory smoke seasoning (gives a smoky flavor)
Peanut butter (one tablespoon or less – makes BBQ creamy)
Soy sauce (for flavor/color)
Tobacco (for flavor/color)
Chilies* (for hotness)

Combine ingredients and cook over low heat to reduce until proper thickness (viscosity) is achieved.
