3 T sugar
1/2 c slivered almonds
1 head romaine lettuce, torn in bite-size pieces
1/2 head iceberg lettuce, torn in bite-size pieces
1 c chopped green onions
3/4 c chopped celery
1 (11 oz.) can mandarin oranges, drained

Dressing
2 T cider vinegar
1/4 c vegetable oil
2 T chopped fresh parsley
1/2 t salt
dash Tabasco
1 T brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until pale caramel in color. Add almonds and stir to coat. Remove from heat and pour onto aluminum foil to cool. Chop when cooled. Set aside. In a large salad bowl, combine the lettuce leaves, onions, and celery. Refrigerate two hours or overnight to enhance flavor. In a small bowl, mix the dressing ingredients and refrigerate. When ready to serve, add the almonds, oranges, and dressing to the lettuce mixture and toss.
