2 1/2 - pound well-trimmed fresh beef boneless brisket
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup catsup
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 bay leaf, crumbled

Sprinkle beef with salt. Place in ungreased oblong baking dish, 13x9x2 inches. Mix remaining ingredients; pour on beef. Cover and cook in 325ºF oven until beef is tender, about 2 hours.
