1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 3/4 cups hottest tap water

1. Preheat oven to 350º

2. Mix flour, sugar, 2 tbsp. of cocoa, baking powder and salt in an ungreased square baking pan 9 X 9 X 2.

3. Stir in milk, oil and vanilla with a fork until smooth.

4. Sprinkle on nuts and spread the mixture in the pan.

5. Sprinkle the brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa evenly over the batter.

6. Carefully pour the hot tap water over the batter. Bake for 40. minutes.

7. While the cake is still warm, cut the surface layer into squares and spoon in dessert dishes. Top with ice cream. When you remove the surface layer there should be a chocolate sauce in the bottom of the pan. Spoon the sauce over the ice cream. Serve immediately.
