Directions:
Place sugar, syrup and water into a large kettle; stir thoroughly. Cover and boil for 1 to 2 minutes or until steam has dissolved sugar from the sides of the kettle. Uncover and continue boiling to soft ball stage. Add peanuts and butter; cook, stirring constantly, until light brown or straw color. Remove from stove and add vanilla, salt and soda. Stir quickly and pour onto a large buttered slab or plate. As soon as cold on the edges, loosen, turn the sheet upside down and pull out to desired thinness. (Recipe used by Grandmother Thralls-1948, from Sada Correll, Abilene, KS in Inglenook Cookbook)

LaVona's variation: Cook 2 c. sugar, 1 c. water and 1 c. white Karo until it threads. Add 2 c. raw peanuts and cook until peanuts are well done and syrup is golden brown. Add 1 tsp. butter, 1/2 tsp. vanilla and 2 tsp. soda. Stir rapidly and remove from heat; quickly turn into buttered pan to cool.
