1 c chopped dates
1/2 c boiling water
1 t soda
Pour water over dates and soda and cool.
1/2 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1/4 t salt
1 1/4 c plus 3 T flour
3/ 4 t soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar and add eggs, add cooled date mix. Sift flour soda salt into creamed mix. Mix well. Pour into a greased pan maybe a
9 x 9. Top with 1 pkg chocolate chips , 1/3 c nuts 1/2 c sugar. Add sugar last. Don't mix then. Bake 1/2 hr at 350º. Test with wet finger. If it sizzles good then it is done.
