1 c shortening or margarine
2 c sugar
3 eggs, beaten
2 2/3 c flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp lemon or almond flavoring
3/4 c milk (stir in 1 T lemon juice to sour)
Frosting or strawberries and cream

Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar, add remaining ingredients and mix together with electric mixer about 5 minutes. Bake in greased 9x13 inch cake pan for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool and frost or can be used for strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries and cream.
(Bake at 350º for metal pan; 325º for glass)
