1/2 pound butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda dissolved in buttermilk
3 and 1/2 cups plain flour (reserve 1/2 cup, sifted)
8 ounces dates cut into small pieces
1 pound orange slice candy cut into small pieces
1 can coconut
2 cups broken pecans

TOPPING FOR CAKE:
1 can orange juice
2 cups powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time. Add flour alternately with buttermilk. Combine nuts, candy, dates and coconut into the 1/2 cup flour and add to batter. Mix well. Bake in tube pan or bundt pan for 2 and 1/2 hours at 250º.

TOPPING:
Mix well the orange juice and powdered sugar. Bring to a boiling point and pour over hot cake. Let stand in pan overnight. Remove from pan. Can be sliced, but is better to wait several days.
