Sift together:
6 cups flour
2 tsps. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Cream together:
2 cups shortening
2 cups white sugar
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsps. vanilla
4 eggs
2 tbsps. water
Add to dry ingredients and mix
Divide dough into six pieces and make into a roll about the size of a soup can. Wrap each piece in waxed paper and put into bag in the refrigerator overnight.
Filling(Cook until thickened)
2 cups chopped dates or raisins
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
Slice dough in 1/8 inch slices. Put slice on greased cookie sheet. Put about 1 tsp. of filling on top. Cover and press another slice on top.
Bake 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes
