3 slices bacon, cut into squares
olive oil
1 head cabbage, cored and sliced
1 onion, chopped
1 pinch sugar (or substitute)
salt and pepper to taste
nutmeg (optional)

Pour oil in a large pot and add bacon. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, or until bacon is crisp. Add cabbage, onion, sugar, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (optional). Cook and stir continuously for about 5 minutes or until tender.

Cabbage was another staple in Steven's family menu. I always liked the idea of adding some bacon. It adds great flavor. Nutmeg is an ingredient I started using to add a different twist to some vegetable dishes. It works well with this dish too. I would suggest to try it without the nutmeg first and then add it next time and see what you think.
