4 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. cornstarch
10 c. water
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
3 T. lemon juice
3 drops yellow food coloring

Combine all ingredients except lemon juice and food coloring. Cook over stove top, stirring constantly, until thick and smooth. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and food coloring.

This is the sauce to pour over apples when canning apple pie filling. Slice apples and place in clean jars according to safe canning practices. Pour sauce over apples in jar and process in hot water bath for 30 minutes.

We used jars of this for our apple crisp and apple pies. You can cut down the recipe to make individual and fresh pies.

I got this recipe from Kristie Bleazard. I spent many hours each fall canning jars of this.
