1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or butter
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. buttermilk or 1/2 c. sweet milk plus 2 T. vinegar
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the sugars and shortening until fluffy. Add the beaten eggs. Sift together the dry ingredients. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the sour milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Fold in the boiling water; add vanilla. Pour batter into a greased and floured 13x9-inch cake pan or 3 (9-inch) layer pans. Bake at 350º for 30-35 minutes or until center of cake springs back when touched lightly.

This cake was Blake's 3rd birthday cake when she decorated it herself with wall to wall M&Ms. For her 16th birthday it was decorated with the red Mustang car that she wanted. I think she may have wanted a REAL Mustang!
