2 cups sugar
1 cup Crisco
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon milk
1 ˝ teaspoons baking powder
4 cups self-rising flour
3 tablespoons cocoa (for chocolate cookies) (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and Crisco, add eggs 1 at a time, add vanilla, milk, baking powder, cocoa (for chocolate), and flour. Roll into balls and press with a glass set in sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees 10-12 minutes. Cookies are better if they are not brown on top.

This is not Papa’s recipe. These cookies are baked on cookie sheets. Papaw’s had to be cut out with a jar ring and cooked in iron skillets that have been buttered.
