1 Stick unsalted butter
1 1/2 c. half-and-half
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 T. corn syrup
1 tsp. Grand Marnier
6 slices of bread, trimmed (I like Challah bread)
1/4 tsp. salt
5 large eggs

Directions:
In a small heavy saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar and corn syrup over low to medium heat, stirring until smooth. Pour into a 13x9x2 baking dish. Before the syrup sets, place bread slices over the syrup in a single layer, squeezing them to fit. In a bowl, whisk the eggs. Add in the half-and-half, salt, vanilla and Grand Marnier, whisk until well blended. Pour over the bread slices. Cover and chill for at least 8 hours. The next morning, bring french toast to room temperature and bake in a 350º oven for 40 minutes, until puffed up and golden brown. Serve hot, sprinkled with powdered sugar and garnished with orange slices.

This dish can be frozen for later use. Defrost in the refrigerator overnight and bring to room temperature before baking.
