2 cups milk; can use half and half or whipping cream. 2 tbsp butter; 6 pieces stale white bread cut into cubes; 2 eggs; 1/2 cup sugar; 1 tsp. vanilla extract; 1/4 tsp. salt; 1/4 cup raisins.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of a 2 quart glass casserole. combine milk and 2 tbsp of butter in saucepan and heat until milk is just scalded. layer bread cubes in bottom of casserole. In separate bowl beat eggs, add sugar, vanilla, salt, and raisins. mix well. stir into milk mixture. then pour over bread cubes. place casserole in a pan of hot water and bake in 350 degree oven for 50-60 minutes.
