1 lb packaged dates (2 - 8 oz pkgs chopped)
2 t baking soda
1 1/2 C boiling water
1 T butter
1 3/4 C sugar
1 egg
2 3/4 flour
1 C chopped nuts
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Place chopped dates in a bowl. Add soda to water and pour over dates. Set aside & let stand. Cream butter & sugar together. Add the egg, mix in. Strain water from date mixture into above. Mix. Add flour and beat well. Add dates, nuts & vanilla. Beat well. Pour batter into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake 350º 50 min. Can serve w/ hard sauce.
