1 whole cut up chicken
salt and pepper
Cook chicken until tender. Let cool, debone and return to hot broth.

DUMPLINGS
2 c self rising flour
2 T melted shortening
1 1/2 c milk (or more if needed)
Mix well and roll out on floured board. Roll out thin, cut into small pieces and drop a few at a time, into boiling broth. Put lid on and cook for 10 minutes. Turn off heat and let sit for at least 2 hours before serving.

You can buy frozen dumplings at the grocery store. They are not as good as homemade, but a lot easier.
