1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 cups shortening
1 3/4 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
4 cups oatmeal
2 (12 oz) packages chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
1.Mix shortening, white and brown sugars.

2. Slowly add eggs and vanilla and mix well.

3. Add dry ingredients (flour, baking soda and salt).

4. After dry ingredients are incorporated, stir in oatmeal, chocolate chips and pecan if desired.

5. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto backing sheet and and cook at 350 degrees until brown - about 10 minutes.

Variations: Substitute white or butterscotch chips and add pecans

Notes: Cookies store well in freezer in ziplock bags!
