1 c.salt free butter, no margarine
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
11/2 tsp. cream of tartar
11/2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in
2T of milk
1tsp. salt
1tsp. vanilla
5c. flour +/- begin with 3c.

Preheat oven to 375*

Cream butter and sugar. Blend in the eggs, vanilla, milk/baking soda. Add 3 cups of flour, salt, and cream of tartar mixing well. As you mix add 1 cup more flour to make a sticky dough. Refrigerate dough for 1hour. Use last 1 cup of flour on your board or counter to help roll out cookies. Roll out to desired thickness, about 1/4inch. Cut out shapes with cookie cutter, and bake for 10-12 minutes on a sprayed cookie sheet. Cool on rack or counter. Frost with Kris Kringle Frosting.

These were my mom's cookies. It would not have been Christmas if we didn't have these cookies. This recipe will double very well. You can make the cookies one day and frost them the next. Store them in aluminum foil lined containers or the turkey roaster like my mom!
