PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES

1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 beaten eggs
4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups cake flour, sifted
1 1/2 cup milk
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup chopped pecans

ICING
1 stick butter
1 egg
1 tsp lemon juice
1 pound of powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 cup of pecans

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar together. Add beaten eggs, blend well. Add chocolate and vanilla. Add milk alternately with flour and baking powder. Add nuts last. Divide into 4 layers and cook at 350º for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool completely before icing.

Icing
Mix ingredients and blend well. Add 1 cup chopped pecans. Add a little cream or butter to spread better.

The recipe says divide into 4 layers but I think 3 layers would work better. You may need to increase baking time by 3-5 minutes. Check with toothpick to make sure the cake is done.

It took 2 batches of icing for me to cover the cake with 4 layers.

This cake will freeze well.
