3 lbs Pinto Beans
1 Large can of diced tomatoes
1 onion
1.5 tbsp chili powder
3 tbsp garlic
salt to taste
1 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp brown sugar
ham hock, sausage links, or bacon.

water to approximately 2 inches higher that the beans.

Directions:
Directions:
Place 3 lbs of beans into a large pot. bring to a heavy boil for 2 full minutes. Take off of heat and let sit for 2 hours.

rinse and clean beans

place beans, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and ham hock, bacon, or sausage into large pot.

Fill with water to two inches above the bean level.

Simmer for 1.5 hours. Add remaining spices and cook for an additional 1.5 hours.
