1 cup shortening
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup nuts
1 cup raisins
2 cups flour, sifted
1 3/4 tsp. soda
1 1/4 cup sour milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix and cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs. Add the rolled oats, nuts and raisins. Sift together dry ingredients and add 1 cup. Mix in sour milk and remaining dry ingredients.

Drop by teaspoon on tray and flatten with a glass. Cover with damp cloth. Let stand for a few minutes. This "squashing" makes them lighter. Bake for 10 minutes in a 350º oven.
