Ingredients:  
1 cup regular cornmeal
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon soda
Dash of pepper
1 small onion finely chopped
1 stalk celery finely chopped
1/2 cup buttermilk
Hot shortening or oil

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first six ingredients in a large bowl. Stir in buttermilk and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls into hot shortening. Cook until golden brown.

Uncle John loved hushpuppies. He always served them with his seafood. They were so crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. He was a wonderful cook! There is not a day that goes by that I don't miss him.
