Personal Notes:
You will need a lesson in traditional shapes. They are St. Joseph's beard and staff. Mary's braid and crown. The "Bambino" (Baby Jesus). Artichoke and St. Lucy's eyes. You can also make simple rolls. This bread is a tribute to Grandma Misiti and her devotion to San Giuseppe. This is delicious toasted. Aunt Carm really tweaked this recipe and made it the best anywhere. She was my teacher and the best aunt you could ever have. The Misiti "St. Joseph Table" was open to the community and thousands of visitors expierienced this Italian tradition over the years. My grandmothers hard work and generosity is something we can all be proud of. She walked to daily Mass and communion until her health failed. She had an old cigar box filled with holy cards and everday sat with them and prayed the rosary. A beautiful lady...Remember this bread can be made in time of despair, to request a special favor, or in thanksgiving. St. Joseph will never let you down. I hope this special devotion to him continues in our family forever.
