French Toast Strata Recipe

1 loaf of uncut French bread
1 block 8 oz package of cream cheese
½ cup of apricot or peach or strawberry preserves (you could probably use whatever preserves are your favorite)
2 ½ cups of milk
8 eggs
6 Tbsp. of margarine not butter (melt and add to milk BEFORE EGGS ARE ADDED)
¼ cup of maple or apple cider syrup

Spray a 13 x 9 in. baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Cut bread into cubes. Put half of them in the dish covering the bottom. Cut the cream cheese into small cubes. Put them on the top of the first layer of bread cubes. Add preserves on top of the cream cheese cubes (in dollops). Top that with the remaining bread cubes. In a blender: combine eggs, milk, margarine, and syrup. Pour this carefully over the bread and cheese. Using a spatula, press layers down to moisten. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2-24 hrs. Remove plastic wrap and bake in a preheated oven of 325º for 35-40 mins. or until the centers appears set and edges are golden. Let stand 10 mins.
