1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup (5 oz.) poppy seeds
2 1/4 cups unsifted flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. mace
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar at medium speed. Beat in egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Combine remaining ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture and beat just until well blended. Divide dough in half.

On waxed paper, form each half into a roll 2 inches wide, 9 inches long. Wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 325º. Grease 2 large cookie sheets. Cut dough into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place on cookie sheets and bake about 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown at the edges.
