Directions:Mix everything in a heavy pan and cook till bubbly. Then turn down to a simmer for at least 30 minutes. It is best if it can simmer for around 4 hours or sit over night in the fridge. It can be used for a dip or brush it over meat on the grill. Keep the left overs in the fridge for 3 months. **Be careful doubling or tripling the recipe: watch the amounts of chili powder, red pepper, black pepper, and vinegar. It will get too spicy really fast!! This is a BBQ sauce that will get you at the back of your mouth and make it water. Slightly vinegary but GREAT!! We love to dip bread in it while it is simmering!! |

Notes: This is my step-dad's (Bill Clifton's) recipe he invented when he was young. We would have BBQ's in our backyard and he would smoke ribs and chicken and grill corn right in the husk. The memories I have of this sauce are too many to name and very dear to my heart. My kids dubbed it "famous" and always beg me to make it. Bill has never given this recipe to anyone except me. I wrote it down before I left for college and he has since lost his copy of it. This is the first time it has been published in a cookbook and that is because I don't want it lost before my kids have families and make their own memories.
