2 cups brown sugar
2 cups hot water
4 tbsp butter plus 1 stick
1 box raisins
1 1/2 tsp all spice
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 egg
1 tsp soda mixed with 1 tsp cold water
4 cups flour
2 cups chopped nuts
frosting
1 cup brown sugar packed
1 stick margarine
1/4 cup canned milk
3 cups powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
mix brown sugar, hot water, butter, raisins, all spice, cinnamon and egg and boil for 3 minutes
let cool for 10 minutes
add soda in water
beat in flour
fold in nuts
bake 3 layers at 350º for 30 minutes
frosting
melt brown sugar and margarine together
add canned milk boil 1 minute
add powdered sugar

This was my Grandmother, Furman Sloan, recipe.
This recipe is over 100 years old. We had this cake every Christmas.
