1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:

1. Pour water over oats and let stand 20 minutes.

2. Cream butter and sugar. Blend in vanilla and eggs. Add oat mixture. Mix well. Add dry ingredients.

3. Pour into greased and floured 13x9x2-inch pan. Bake at 350º for 50 minutes or until done in center.

FROSTING:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1/3 cup chopped nuts
3/4 cup coconut
Spread on cake and put under broiler until bubbly. Watch closely, it burns really fast.

From Debbie: Another really old one we used to have regularly. It was called "Lazy Daisy Oatmeal Cake", but I can't remember where we got it from. It's good though!
