2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening or 2 sticks butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 eggs
1 cup jam (seedless blackberry)
3 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cloves
1 cup nuts (any kind)
Caramel Icing:
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cream or half & half
1 box powdered sugar
pecan halves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugars and shortening or butter. Mix buttermilk and baking soda together. Beat eggs in a separate bowl and add to the sugar and shortening. Add jam. Sift together the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cloves. Add to other mixture and mix well. Add nuts. Grease and line a tube pan. Pour batter in pan and bake for 1 hour. Test to see if done in 50 minutes.
Bring the first 3 ingredients for the icing to a rolling boil. Remove from heat. Cool completely. Sift box of powdered sugar and add to mixture until it spreads easily. Decorate top with pecans halves.
