4 pounds fresh figs
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 cups water
4 pounds sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Wash figs in mixture of baking soda and water. Rinse in clear water. Place figs in heavy saucepan and cover with sugar. Let stand 2 hours until syrup begins to form. Cook fig mixture over medium heat until figs are brown in color and syrup thickens. Stir occasionally as it cooks. Pack into hot sterile jars and seal.
