1 lb dry split peas
4 cups water
1 cup ham,cut into small cubes
2 large carrots, cut into thin slices
2 medium potatoes, cut into cubes
1 stalk celery, cut into thin slices
1 small onion. chopped
1 tsp. paprika
salt and pepper to taste
2 bay leaves

Directions:
Directions:
rince peas.
put in stock pot with water.
Bring to boil. turn off heat. let stand 1 hour.
Drain.
add 4 cups water and all other ingrediants.
bring to a boil.
Turn down heat and simmer,stirring occasionaly, for at least 1 hour.

The longer you simmer the thicker it will be.
We like it THICK so we simmer at least 3 hours.
