• 1 C chopped walnuts
• 2 oz semi-sweet chocolate, shaved
• 2 ½ C flour
• 1 ½ C sugar
• 4 tsp double acting backing powder
• 1 tsp salt
• 2/3 C butter
• 1 ¼ C milk
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 2/3 C egg whites

Sprinkle nuts over bottom of pan. Grate the chocolate and set aside. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt. Add butter, milk, and vanilla, add the egg whites. Beat the mixture for 2 minutes. Spoon a thick layer of batter onto the pan. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings. Top with more batter. Bake at 350 for 30 mins. Cool 10 mins in pan before removing.
