1 can (16 oz) whole peeled tomatoes,undrained
2 cloves garlic
2 Tbsps. vegetable oil
4 lbs. county style port spareribs
2 med white onions, cut lengthwise in 1/4 in wide slivers
1 to 2 tbsps finely chopped seeded dried ancho chiles (canned will work also)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 cup orange juice
1/3 cup dry white wine
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp shredded orange peel
1/2 tsp salt

1. Place tomatoes and garlic in blender, process until smooth. Set aside.
2 Heal oil in 5 qt. Dutch oven over medium heat until hot. Brown ribs in single layer in hot oil 15 to 20 min., turning occasionally. Remove to plate. Repeat with remaining ribs.
3. Remove and discard all but 2 tblsps drippings from pan. Add onion. Cook and stir 4 min. or until onions are softened.
4 Add chiles, cinnamon and cloves to pan. Cook and stir 30 seconds. Add tomato mixture. Cook and stir 5 minutes.
5. Add orange juice, wine,brown sugar, orange peel and salt to pan. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add ribs. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 1-1/2 hrs. or until ribs are tender.

This is a favorite in our house! It works well in a crock pot as well. Full of flavor and great leftover or good to freeze.
