1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions:
Cream together butter and sugars until light and fluffy; add eggs and beat well. Sift together flour and soda, salt and cinnamon. Stir into creamed mixture and blend well. Chill dough several hours or overnight.

Roll out on floured board into rectangle 1/4 inch thick. (If dough is too stiff to roll, sprinkle with a small amount of warm water and work in with your fingers).

Filling:
Combine chopped dates, sugar and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until jam-like.
Cool and stir in chopped nuts.

Spread date filling on rolled dough. Roll up jelly roll fashion starting on the long side. Wrap in waxed paper, twisting ends to hold. Chill several hours or overnight. Slice about 1/3 inch thick and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
