1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs, beaten
2 T. cocoa
2 oz. red food coloring
2 1/2 cup flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve soda in buttermilk, set aside. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add rest of the ingredients, one at a time to creamed mixture. Beat well and pour into two layer pans, 9 1/2 inches. Bake in 350º oven until done, approx. 40-50 minutes

FROSTING:
1 cup butter
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
3 T. flour
Combine milk and flour. Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring so mixture does not burn. Let set until cool. Beat butter and sugar together until creamy. Combine with milk mixture and beat until frosting stands in peaks.

I made this recipe in my "test" kitchen. Made cupcakes and they were very good. Frosting was wonderful.
