1 cup chopped dates
1 cup chopped apples
1 cup hot water
1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
salt
vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, apples, hot water & soda. Let cool then mix in the rest of the ingredients.

Note: recipe does not give baking time or temperature.

FROSTING:
4 T. buttter
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 T. milk
Nuts if you want (grandma's note)
