2 lbs beef stew meat, cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes
4 tbsp shortening
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 garlic clove
1 medium onion, sliced
1 or 2 bay leaves
1 tbsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp pepper
Allspice or cloves
6 carrots, pared and quartered
6 potatoes, pared and quartered
6 tbsp all purpose flour
salt and pepper

Directions:
Directions:
In a small paper bag of flour, salt, and pepper add cubes of beef and shake.
Add beef to pot and brown it, stirring occasionally
Add three cups hot water to pot and next 9 ingredients.
Cover; simmer for 1 1/2 hrs, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking.
Remove bay leaves and garlic.
Add vegetables
Cover and cook 30-45 minutes, or till vegetables are tender.
Add dumplings if preferred (look on bisquick box)
