2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. soda
1/2 t. salt
1/2 c. butter
2 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
4 eggs
4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
1/2 c. buttermilk OR 1/2 c. milk soured with 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Stir together flour, soda and salt. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add chocolate. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk starting and ending with flour.
Stir in boiling water and add extract. Batter will be very runny. Bake in 3 greased 9" round layer pans at 375º for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool and put together and frost the outside with French Silk frosting.
