Cake:
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sour milk (combine 1 cup milk with 1 Tbsp. vinegar & let sit awhile)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup boiling water
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of salt

Icing:
1 1/2 sticks margarine (3/4 cup)
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
4 1/2 Tbsp. flour
1 cup milk at room temperature
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

For cake:
Mix sugar, eggs, and shortening. Add sour milk, vanilla, water, flour, baking powder, cocoa, baking soda, and salt and mix well. Drop by spoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 450º for 5 minutes.

For icing:
Mix margarine, shortening, and sugar, and beat 3-4 minutes. Add flour, milk, and vanilla. Beat using electric mixer; it may be runny, just keep beating until it forms the icing.

Pair up the gobs and fill with icing.

Note: it helps to use a stand mixer for the icing as it takes awhile for the icing to come together.
