4 c flour
3 T sugar
1 T baking powder
1 T baking soda
1 t salt
6 T butter
2 eggs, beaten (reserve a T to brush loaf with)
1 1/2 c buttermilk
1/2 c golden raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Mix dry ingredients and raisins. Cut in butter till it is pea-sized. Add beaten egg and buttermilk. Knead dough on floured surface for 10 strokes. Shape into ball.
Place in round greased casserole. Cut an "x" in the top with a sharp knife. Brush with reserved egg and bake for 1 hour and 10". Cool in the casserole for 10" on a rack. Remove from casserole and cool completely.
