2 cups of flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1 cup of milk

Topping:
3 T. of butter
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup of crushed ceral flakes

Directions:
Directions:
Fork dry ingredients and shortening together until mixed well. Beat egg and milk together and add to dry ingredients. Put into greased 8" cake pan.

Melt butter and add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cereal flakes. Top the batter evenly.

Bake at 350º for 30-35 minutes.

Mom would make this for the boys when they had to make the trip down to southern Minnesota to pick the girls up from Grandma's. We call it Dan's Coffeecake because I remember him making it at home and now it has become a favorite of Kyle and Luke's.
